An Enchanted Baby Shower for Benny & Catherine Dayal

Parties by PALC  ·  A Baby Shower

Blush roses, ivory drapery and a flower market of their own: an enchanted afternoon for Benny and Catherine Dayal.

When Benny Dayal and Catherine Dayal asked us to style their baby shower, the brief came in two words: enchanted and whimsical. We read that as the feeling of a storybook rather than a theme: soft, romantic, the kind of room you want to linger in.

On 30 November 2025 we transformed a light-filled room high above Mumbai with blush, dusty mauve and ivory, and let fabric, flowers and candlelight do the storytelling. The couple's warmth did the rest.

A gentle welcome

The welcome sign, dated 30.11.2025.

The story began at the door. A fabric welcome sign carried a hand-drawn vintage pram, the couple's names in flowing script and the date, finished with long blush satin ribbons.

Beside it, pillar candles and a loose, garden-style arrangement of roses, lisianthus and chrysanthemums set the tone for everything inside: soft, personal and unhurried.

The backdrop

For the focal wall we built a little theatre of fabric. Ivory drapery was swagged and gathered like an old-fashioned window, edged in lace and tied with long pink velvet bows. Beside it stood a tall mauve banner reading Baby Dayal, flanked by draped plinths and a cascading installation of blush, peach and mauve roses with clouds of hydrangea.

Pillar candles in glass hurricanes softened the base, and a pink velvet shell armchair waited for the mama-to-be.

One long table

Guests gathered around a single long table laid with white linen and oval-back linen chairs, so the afternoon felt like a family lunch rather than an event. Down its length ran a low, meadow-like centrepiece of garden roses, lisianthus, chrysanthemums and Queen Anne's lace, threaded with ivory and blush twisted tapers in tall glass candlesticks.

Small, sweet details

Look closer and the table was full of tiny surprises: little knitted baby booties holding miniature blooms, paper butterflies perched among the flowers, and a single stem with a butterfly at every place.

Nearby, a bookshelf glowed with lit marquee letters spelling BABY, and an ornate white mirror wore an oversized pink bow.

The Bloom Bar

For the take-away, guests went home with flowers. We built a fresh flower market under a pink striped, scalloped awning, filled with buckets of roses, chrysanthemums, gypsophila and feathery grasses.

A Bloom Bar sign invited everyone to choose their stems, add a little greenery and build a bouquet of their own, then wrap it in blush paper to take home.

It turned the favour into an experience, and it meant the flowers lived on in homes across the city long after the afternoon ended.

The Moments

What it was all for

Beyond the backdrop and the blooms, the day was about two people waiting to meet their baby, surrounded by the people they love.

To Take Home

Ideas worth stealing

  1. Choose a texture, not a theme. Swagged drapery, velvet bows and lace say “whimsical” more elegantly than any printed character.
  2. Make the favour an activity. A flower bar lets guests build their own bouquet, and it doubles as décor until they do.
  3. Seat everyone together. One long table with low florals and tall tapers makes a shower feel intimate, whatever the guest list.
  4. Hide baby details in miniature. Knitted booties as tiny vases or marquee letters on a shelf hint at the occasion without shouting it.
  5. Date your welcome sign. A fabric sign with names and the date becomes a keepsake for the nursery.

Questions

Frequently asked

How do you plan an enchanted, whimsical baby shower?

Start with a soft palette such as blush, mauve and ivory, then build the mood with texture rather than a printed theme: draped fabric, ribbons, lace, garden flowers and candlelight. Add one interactive moment, like a flower bar, and a few small baby details.

What is a flower bar at a baby shower?

A flower bar is a take-away station where guests choose fresh stems, add greenery and wrap their own bouquet to take home. It replaces a packaged favour and works beautifully as décor before guests use it.
